First Day at Sea

Today we awakened to very bilious skies and rougher seas. I love the channel that tells you all of the weather information – it was 41 degrees with 4-8 foot seas that grew rougher throughout the day. The Commodore loves to come on the PA system to talk about the fabulous stabilizers, it really is funny. Unfortunately, Mom didn’t rest very well last night thanks to leg cramps, so we were a little slow to move this morning. Prakasan arrived promptly at 8:30 with our breakfast. We are trying to be a bit smarter about our meals this trip. Somehow we normally eat such a large breakfast that we have to skip lunch. After breakfast, Mom needed a little rest, so I headed out to the gym. I had forgotten what nice facilities they have on board. I haven’t worked out in over a year, but today seemed like a good day to start again. I think I am going to be sore. I did have a little trouble on the treadmill since the speed was in km/hr – I couldn’t seem to get it going fast enough for a run. When I returned to the suite, it was time to get on with the day. We showered and went to a late lunch. I am not normally a fish person, but we had this amazing Mahi Mahi with avocado relish, but the highlight was the “sugar free” strawberry rhubarb crumble. It was by far one of the best desserts I have ever had. This afternoon was pretty uneventful. We did go to the Concierge Lounge for tea, but didn’t make it up to the Queen’s Grill for the more formal one. The sun set at 3:52 pm today, so evening came very early and “Happy Hour” even earlier. Our butler brought us some wonderful canapés once again this evening and then it was time to dress for our first formal night. Tonight was the traditional Black and White Ball. It is so much fun to see everyone all decked out. As we arrived in the dining room, Erdal, who was here on our last trip (we just loved him), met us and escorted us to our table. It was like seeing an old friend. Dinner tonight was rack of lamb and we even had a bottle of J Pinot Noir. It was topped off with Crepes Suzette which was prepared tableside. We went down to the Queens Room where the Ball was taking place. There was a lot of dancing and some really fun social dances. It is now midnight and we are moving forward an hour overnight so morning will come early. The best part this trip is that I have wifi in the room and do not have to wander down to the Kings Court in the middle of the night to post to the blog. A very Happy Birthday to Laura!!! I hope had a great one J

Until tomorrow…

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Your card arrived right and time and made me smile so thanks. You and your mam looked lovely for your B&W ball. Glad you are having such a great time. FYI on the leg cramps - have your mom put a bar of soap under the covers at the foot of the bed. It's a crazy home cure but friends have used it and it really does reduce the amount of leg cramps. No one knows why but there's nothing to lose in trying it, right? I hope she gets more rest! Love you girl, continue to have a wonderful trip!
